FAQs About the McKenzie Method® (MDT)

Mechanical pain happens when stress or strain affects your joints, muscles, or nerves. It’s often due to poor posture or repetitive movements. Unlike inflammation, mechanical pain changes with movement and isn’t usually alleviated by medication.

MSDs are conditions that affect the muscles, joints, and bones, and connective tissues that make up the body’s musculoskeletal system. Common MSDs include arthritis, back pain, and even pain that comes “out of nowhere.”

An MDT-certified therapist specializes in diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal pain using the McKenzie Method. This certification requires two years of post-graduate training and has only been achieved by about 3% of physical therapists in the United States.

MDT clinicians achieve faster results, lower costs, and reduce the need for additional therapy. This is because we use a research-backed method proven to diagnose and treat pain more efficiently than traditional physical therapy—even unexplained pain that hasn’t responded to other common treatments.
